About Timberspan

Timberspan was founded in 2006 by Joseph Cvenkel.

We are primarily a custom sawmill, specializing in Douglas Fir sawn products. Our band saws provide great accuracy and a relatively smooth finish of sawn lumber and timbers.

Timberspan is CORE certified for workplace health and safety.

All of the lumber produced is graded by NLGA grading rules. Being a custom sawmill, we often superimpose additional criteria that we develop with the customer to meet the requirements of their project. So when ordering, you don’t need to understand the grading rules, but it is important to communicate your needs clearly. We accept orders in writing by email and fax. Even texting will do.

Timberspan is a member of Canadian Mill Services Association (CMSA) and is certified to grade stamp a) Douglas Fir and SPF timbers #2 and Btr. and b) Douglas Fir and SPF timbers #1 and Btr.

We are also a member of the Prince George Chamber of Commerce.

Our owner, Joseph Cvenkel, has been involved in wood manufacturing and construction in Canada for well over 25 years. He graduated with a B.Sc. in Forestry Engineering from the University of Ljubljana, Slovenia.

Before Timberspan, he taught at the College of New Caledonia in Prince George, British Columbia, Canada. His favourite topics of lecture were structural wood design, computer drafting and computerized wood manufacturing of wood structures. He went on to collaborate with log home and timber frame builders. Between 1987 and 1992, he operated a log home construction company in Ontario, Canada.

He has built and designed houses in Ontario and British Columbia, Canada; Nagano, Japan; and Germany. His designs varied from traditional North American timber frame to Canadian log home and traditional European with alpine milieu. Building structures like catapults and waterwheels are hobbies of his. Joseph has been in the wood business for over 39 years.
